What if a bitter Greek oil tycoon discovers a methane hydrate deposit off the coast of Newfoundland capable of equaling the production of all the earth's known natural energy sources?

Dario Christakis is glutting the market with low cost energy, running his competitors out of business and leaving the Middle East Oil Cartel gnashing their teeth. Everyone knows the richest man in the world is insanely consumed with grief after his only son is killed during a drug bust in New York City, but few know about the billionaire's terminal brain cancer. Christakis makes unholy alliances with worldwide terrorist networks, Mafia from both sides of the Atlantic, and the largest of drug cartels in order to revenge his son's death. Soon he will be dead also, but his cohorts will carry on with a reign of madness and mayhem while taking control of the world amid the confusion-unless the sole heir to Christakis fortune steps forward in time. When Jared awakens as a prisoner about to be put to death on a ship docked in St. Petersburg, Russia, he finds himself guided by his dead mentor Cap Rison. Relying on memories of Cap's wisdom, he escapes his would be killers but nearly drowns in the freezing harbor waters. His life is saved by three fishermen who turn out to be more than just net throwers. They are part of a secret organization called the "Shadow Squad"-a group of former CIA and KGB undercover agents, who are well past their prime. They fought the cold war thanklessly for years and were put out to pasture without even a pat on the back-but now they've come in from the cold, and they're out to save the world.

Susan Rossi-Grant is a classical violinist. At thirty-two, she has finally decided to settle down and has recently married her sole mate since grade school, Jared Grant. They've been apart for only ten years of their lives, but much more happened during that time than either knows. Susan's older sister Karen had disappeared fourteen years ago but resurfaced five years later with a four-year-old daughter, a bottomless bank account and scared shitless.
